Properties:
Beer silica gel is a kind of non-crystalline solid powder with micropore structure. Pore diameter is 8-16mm and chemical molecular formula is mSiO2?nH2O, it not only doesn't dissolve in water and any solvent, but also doesn't react with any acid, alkali and salt with exception of caustic alkali and hydrofluoric acid. Owing to be nontoxic, tasteless, nonflammable, inexplosive and harmless to human body and has strong hot and cold stabilities, it mainly applies to beer industry.

Function:
Owning large specific surface and countless adequate micropore structure, beer silica gel can adsorb the proteins which making beer roily and then eliminate them through filtering, thus can prolong storage period of beer to 180-240 days and prevent beer from occurring cold turbidness. It doesn't affect bubble and taste of beer. Physical and chemical characters of beer silica gel determines it makes no difference to beer bubble and taste, besides, practice has proved beer silica gel is the safest beer stabilizer recognized by world beer industry.
It can improve effect of assisting filtration. Beer silica gel has stable chemical property, contains no soluble matter of beer and is greatly better than those of diatomite in specific surface and multi-micropore structure. Therefore, it is the good filter aid and thus can assist the filtration of diatomite, making beer much brighter and clearer.

Application Method:

2 In addition to applying to production line of brewery which owing diatomite filter, HY-950 silica gel also can be added into pre-coated tin and appending machine together with diatomite. The adding quantity can refer to the following quantities:

HY-950 Diatomite
Pre-coating for the first time Don't add 500g/m Filtration area
Pre-coating for the second time 50g/m Filtration area 200-300g/m
Filtration of main material 30-100g/HL 80-100g/HL

(HL: refer to beer per hectoliter)

2Add batch of HY-950 and continuously add it after ferment and before filtration.

Add batch of HY-950: Put them into can full of beers for one time and then keep over five minutes for adsorption time, thus HY-950 silica gel can be completely removed in the course of filtration.
Continuous adding: Continuously add them into beer according counted quantity, then make them pass a container which can keep over three minutes for contact time, and finally pass through filter. Adding quantity is 300-500ppm.
Adding quantity also can be determined through testing with "accelerated test", which also can be used to test stabilizing efficiency.
Take out two bottles of beer for testing, first measure with nephelometer under room temperature (the measured value is the starting turbidity), in succession, make samples keep 24 hours in water soaking under 0?, then measure under standard 0?, specific value should not be higher than starting turbidity. Such measured value is intended to be cold turbidity, then leave sample place with temperature of 40? for three days, afterwards, after store them into water soaking under 0? for 24 hours over again, measure the value under standard 0? with nephelometer once more and following is still the heating phase, circulating in this manner. If the value reaches three units of EBC, intensified test finishes.
Count actual fresh-keeping days just through multiplying days under high temperature of 40? with factor of 10 is insufficient, what's the more important is after intensified test, air in sample bottle neck should be tested, air in beer bottle neck with half liter should not exceed 1ml, otherwise, due to infection of oxygen, the results of intensified tests cannot be compared, so bottles with high air value must be removed.
Intensified test under 0?-40? is the optimal option to compare different stabilizers, which is also proved to be correct by practice. If do durative fresh-keeping experiment, we suggest to adopt intensified test under 0?-50?, days with continuous high temperature multiplying factor of 20. Additionally, also can be tested with ?H value test in common use of beer industry.
Tannic acid:
Add tannic acids of 2-3g/HL into treatment tank and HY-950 silica gel of 30-50g/HL when filtering main materials not only can save treatment tank equipments and decrease beer losing, but also reduce cost and keep beer taste out of infection.
Vitamin C:
After making stabilization adopting HY-950 silica gel, add VC (2-6g/HL) after filtering beer can increase storage period by 50-80%.

2. After using beer silica gel, can properly reduce use level of fine diatomite according to using quantity of silica gel in order to do not affect filter capacity.
